Home Team Versus Home Field Clarification
Home Versus Away Games
| It is the policy of York USA to attempt to schedule an equal number of home and away games for each team. |
| In an even number of games (e.g., eight (8) games) season, each team should expect four (4) home and four (4) away games. Due to schedule conflicts and issues, it is typical that a small number of teams may be scheduled to play either five (5) home and three (3) away games or three (3) home and five (5) away games. |
| In an odd number of games (e.g., seven (7) games) season, each team should expect either four (4) home and three (3) away games or three (3) home and four (a) away games. Due to schedule conflicts and issues, it is typical that a small number of teams may be scheduled to play either six (6) home and one (1) away game or one (1) home and six (6) away games. |
Home Team Versus Home Field
| It is also the policy of York USA to schedule the Home Team to play on its preferred Home Field. |
| When scheduling conflicts prohibit the scheduling of the Home Team to play on its preferred Home Field, an individual game may be scheduled for a neutral field or on the visiting team’s Home Field. |
| Regardless of where an individual game is scheduled to be played, the team listed as the Home Team will be required to abide by all applicable rules such as the Jersey Conflict rule. This rule requires the team listed as the Home Team on the schedule to change to an alternate jersey when a jersey color conflict arises, regardless of where the game is being played. |
Schedule Conflicts
| Conflicts that may impact the schedule and result in a team or club playing an unusually high number of home or away games, or cause the listed Home Team not to play their preferred Home field include: |
- A blackout is a period of time (i.e., hours, day, weekend, or longer) when a team, club, or field is unavailable for play due to pre-existing conditions.
- Many times field blackouts are beyond the control of the club who uses the field as their primary home location. Often, the fields on which York USA member clubs play their home games are owned or managed by separate entities (e.g., private businesses, school districts, boroughs, townships, etc.) from whom the clubs rent or reserve time.
- To ensure the availability of Referees they are typically assigned to work several games in a row at the same filed or complex.
- Schedules are occasionally adjusted in the manners described above so that Referees are available and on time for every U10 and up Recreational and U9 and up Travel game.
